'Very much a family business'
JSP was formed as a partnership between 3 brothers back in 2010 with the aim of investing in residential property. In the initial years four modern flats and houses were purchased in the Southampton area and let out on Assured Shorthold Tenancies. However with the brothers surveying, management and building experience the strategy soon changed with a move to improve houses and flats through repair and refitting. Initially simple bathroom and kitchen replacement but in recent years full refurbishment and extension. JSP is very much a family business with goals that differ from many commercial enterprises. Its aim is not solely profit and the wellbeing of our tenants and the condition of our properties are of paramount importance. Company growth is not rapid and work not rushed with a focus on getting the right property, brining it to the right level of quality and finding the right tenant. Our houses and flats are not just bricks and mortar but homes to our tenants.
Now operating for just over 10 years the business has two small portfolios, one around the south coast between Southampton & Brighton and the other in London and the Home Counties. Initially funded through an inherited property plus individual savings JSP now raise mortgages on the portfolio but have a strictly self-imposed maximum loan to equity gearing of between 50% and 60%. This has allowed a flexible and caring approach when it comes to rent, for example no rental increases were implemented during the COVID crises and when tenants have faced unfortunate times rents have been reduced. Consequently two thirds of JSP tenants have been in their homes since the day they were let by JSP.

John Hearle FRICS ACIArb
John is a Chartered Surveyor whose career has included the role as Professional Services Director in TSB Property Services, Group Chairman of Aitchison Raffety property consultants and Director with the MedicX Fund (a FTSE 350 property investment company now merged with PHP PLC). John has now semi-retired running a small consultancy business and involved daily in JSP offering business, valuation and investment advice.
Simon Hearle MCIOB
Simon is the Managing Director of a carpentry, joinery and fit-out company. Whilst Simon is still undertaking this role he spends time regularly both advising on and project managing repair, refitting and construction work for JSP. Indeed he has been seen around properties, tools in hand, readying for letting.
Peter Hearle
Peter retired from the Civil Service to direct the property management operation of JSP. An experienced administrator Peter is also a member of NRLA, National Residential Landlords Association. Peter is the conscience of JSP, with his strict outlook on fair play and honesty he ensures that the need of all tenants are considered. Peter is assisted by Zoe on the South Coast Portfolio and Ellie on the London and the Home Counties Portfolio and by Daisy in Accounts.
